Why ‘Relaxed Reading’? – About this Blog

I had mentioned in the last post that I was done fighting, listening and believing what everyone told me. So I grabbed my pen (Laptop) and my paper (Microsoft Word) and started my journey to happiness. A tad bit melodramatic BUT I needed to get my point across.

Do you remember the little corner in the library where you could snuggle up and read, and no one would bother you?…time, hungry, worry all would be forgotten? Well this was the reason for starting off this blog.

Hence, the name Relaxed Reading!

02. Cover Photo

I never actually did explain the name and purpose behind this blog because I thought the title suggested it. I want this place to be a safe haven. A Bridge to Terabithia. The Hogwarts Express. I want anyone who reads these posts to forget their reality and what they are facing, but still take away something they learnt; maybe through my experiences or share some of their own. (I firmly believe we all can learn something from everyone)

For example, recently I had a terrible day at work! Start to end. But instead of getting angry and beginning to cry in front of my colleagues (so I may get moist eyes when I’m angry…don’t judge!) my mind began thinking of a way I could write this; take something positive and maybe help someone else out as well! After all, we ALL have that one irritating boss at work don’t we?

*eureka moment for a new blog post*

Similarly, as they say”a picture is worth a thousand words”, I just plan on writing short stories on some captured moments in my other section. It’s funny to see how a story can be spun in so many different ways and still be engrossing isn’t it? It shows the different perspective’s and ways that people can let their imagination take them.

So! For this blog –

  1. I have decided to go on a more unusual route this time when I write. I will try and link up all the Lifestyle posts of the month so it seems more coherent in a way – preferably every Thursday. (I will try my absolute hardest…)
  2. My Story time posts will be published every Monday. (if I can manage) I do have ideas about some other stuff to write in the middle but let’s leave that as a surprise shall we?
  3. Also the little Friendly Reminders are just quotes I heard or read that I feel can inspire everyone; especially if you are feeling a little downhearted in the middle of the month.

I know this may seem either too little or too ambitious to some. But I thought it best to put it out there so I can have some accountability for not writing. It may help keep me on track and I am willing to try it. Plus, all the new lovely people having a look at this page will know exactly when to expect what. (a little predictive schedule but let’s see how it goes….)

If you have any thoughts and ideas about this Blog please do leave a comment. I would love to know what your thinking. (as time goes I might even expand this little space….but let’s wait and see!)

The Secret Life – (Story)

The conference room was filled with the murmur of voices; some approving, some disapproving as a single file of interns and junior managers stood by. Some of them were fumbling while presenting their work; others were sweating profusely despite the air conditioning of the building.

“Get to the point !” barked one senior executive who had taken one look around the entire table; pausing at the end to stare at a woman, and voiced out what they all were thinking. A babysitting shit fest.

The woman at the end seemed unconcerned about the on goings. She was used to this. Unending days of endless meetings. Ramblings. Some productive, others not so much.

Today was one such instance. Her father had managed to convince her to ask the juniors at work and hear out their ideas for the upcoming meetings. “Including everyone for a productive workplace” were some of his words. She liked to think it was just babysitting them. Apparently so did the rest.

As she focused on around the table she saw what she had exactly expected. Over eager, over achieving kids pretending to know more than they do; surrounded by a bunch of people who seemed to have forgotten that they started out in exactly the same place as these kids. Predictable.

She took in the entire room before shifting her gaze to the view outside. The sky was clear, a rare sight. “That will be all” she declared, cutting of an intern before rising up and walking over to the glass facade. It took a moment for everyone to grasp the situation before they began filing out.

Yes. She was cold. And rude. It didn’t bother her. She needed some time alone before immersing herself in another one of those monotonous talks. It was a perfect day outside. Perfect for a walk in the park. Perfect to sit and do nothing. Perfect to paint. Her fingers twitched at the thought.

Yes. She was the ruthless CEO of a vast business empire built by her father. And no, it was not handed to her despite what people assumed. She and the business grew side by side. It was her father’s dream for him and her.

Father and Daughter. Unbeatable team.

So naturally when she finished high school, despite knowing what she wanted to do; her choice was already made. She loved art, the beauty and dual nature of simple and complex is what attracted her towards it, in the first place. But her father had plans. It seemed that after her mother passed away, she had taken her place in the ‘Dream Team’. Business is what she was taught from the beginning. And that’s what she continued to learn; simply because it pleased her dad.

And she excelled. Naturally.

But, years of studying at Harvard Business School, and working her way up in their own company had done nothing to diminish the craving that she had felt the first day she had picked up a paint brush. So she created an alter ego. The smart, shrewd business woman of the Upper East Side was replaced by a young carefree painter who simply sat on the streets during the weekend painting for people who loved her art. It made her happy.

Not that her father knew. And she preferred the secret life. No complications. She wasn’t a coward. She just loved her father dearly, and seeing him happy brought her joy as well. She just had to ignore the steel and glass rooms and subdued discussions with boring and uninteresting people who seemed to judge her for who she appeared to take on the role as. A privileged self entitled bitch.

“Your father is ready for the meeting Ma’am”, murmured a low male voice, startling her train of thought. She turned and locked eyes with the man before inclining her head; a sign of confirmation.

Another endless day. Another tedious hour. Maybe she could let her alter ego deal with it and not think much about it. Maybe she would paint about it tonight. Lucky she lived alone.

With a long wistful look at the street and the people down below, she braced herself for another colourless hour before striding in her father’s cabin.

“Gentleman, a pleasure to meet you. Now let’s get started …..”

Ready. Set. GO! – Chase your Dreams

So the last time I wrote, was me coming out of a slump basically. I needed an outlet and it was getting difficult for me to not sink into a deep pit of unhappiness. (pretty dark?! I KNOW!!)

It’s true when they say; you never truly value something until you realize it’s gone.

Well that’s what happened to me. I didn’t notice my attitude evolving so much more when I wrote. And since I wasn’t doing it anymore, I kept feeling lost. And hollow. But unlike some people, I actually knew what I had to do to get back. Write.

But then I kept asking myself, now what? You know what your supposed to do; what your meant to be doing. But how do you start? When do you start? Do you look for some sign? Do you wait for the perfect moment? Well I say go for it! (think of it like just jumping into a swimming pool, knowing your arms and legs will help keep you afloat and alive…maybe not the best example if your a swimmer but you get what I’m trying to say right?)

We are excited, and want to go after our dreams, but just as we are about to take the first step we stop. Why? To search for a better time?

In all honesty I can just say that it’s us. We make excuses. To get the perfect camera, or to buy the best laptop or to just have your own work station at work or at home. This is our mind showing us a way out because we begin to doubt our ability. But all this is not necessary!

Being happy is about living in the moment.

A child is happy when you give it a new toy. Immediately it is put to use. There is no doubt if the child thinks it is new, or second hand or even if it is the same toy they had lost a while back. Then why are we any different? Why can’t we do the same? I kept thinking the same thing, until I one day woke up and said, NO MORE! No more sulking. If I want to write then I will. I will make do with what I have and it will be the best that I can do at that time. I can’t live doubting myself and regretting not taking any action.

So get up! You do not need to compare yourself with anyone. We are blessed with whatever we have. So go after your dreams! Work towards your happiness! Only YOU can change your life. So get ready and make it happen!

As Nicole Williams wisely said; The world is your playground.

I am working towards my writing. This helps me personally keep a positive outlook and grow as a person. Hopefully I can inspire some people on my journey as well.

What are you working towards? I would love to know!

Food for Thought – (Story)

The soft clink of a glass interrupted her from a lucid daydream that she was having. She looked around at the noise which had awakened her and realized that there, beside her half eaten plate of cupcakes was a clear mug which was filled to the brim with what looked like steaming hot chocolate. She peered over, just to check and looked up at the retreating back of the man, with one of the biggest smile she had worn on her face for a while now.

Bless Him.

The waiter had seen a lonely girl sitting aloof and had decided to treat her to a steaming mug of hot chocolate. With marsh mellows !

“There’s a bright side” she thought while picking up another beautifully decorated cupcake. She deftly peeled the covering and without a glance, devoured it within a minute.

But even the sugar rush could not distance her thoughts from HIM.

He had never appreciated her. Never treated her the way she saw boys doing it in movies. Perhaps her expectations were too high. But that never gave him the right to toy with her naïve mind.

But what could she do ? She was an incurable romantic.

“LOVE. A wretched bond !” she thought back angrily as she picked up yet another cupcake, but this time pausing to really look at it.

“The amount of effort a person has to put, only for it to be never repaid back. Or maybe it was just the satisfaction of the work.” the irony of her own words did not escape her. With a wry smile she picked up the hot chocolate, a perfect drink for washing down after her cupcake spree.

She had spent far too long telling other people and, convincing herself that she and him were meant to be. That the way he made her feel about herself were just her insecurities rising and nothing more. But the tiny teeny voice. Her voice of reason. The calm, sure and authoritative command within herself made her realize that her sub conscience was right. She was right. And she had to walk away. She deserved more. She deserved better.

Hence, the guilty pleasure. The sweet frosting of the cupcakes in the local bakery had pulled her there instantly.

And as she was sipping her hot chocolate and munching on the soft marsh mellow, she was overcome with a sudden emotion. She couldn’t quite place the feeling, but soon, as she felt the warmth spreading through her body with the first sip; she knew.

It was going to be alright. She was going to be just fine.

A Second Chance – Find your Passion

I’m BACK! *cue weird dance moves*

But no really. I am. For real. Here to stay. Here to write.

Processed with MOLDIV

To all the lovely people who read my previous posts, wondering what happened to my blog. Well I deleted it. All of it. Do you ever get the feeling of just wiping the slate clean and moving forward? Well that’s what happened to me. I had an epiphany of sorts. And decided; why not? I needed a fresh start. What better way than on my birthday month?!

Another reason would be LIFE. Yes I know, sounds pretty dramatic. But that is what happens isn’t it? You are invested in something. It may or may not be practical. You may have a lot of passion regarding it. But then, Life get’s in the way. Or more accurately, reality gets in the way.

School, College, Education, Job. You have to pay the bills. That is correct. But then after sometime you get the nagging feeling of being incomplete. Like something is missing. In truthfulness nothing is. Your just missing the stuff that makes you happy. That DOES NOT MEAN most people who get a job are usually always unhappy. No! But they just never get to unleash what they are most passionate about.

Being in the army versus watching birds. Being a banker versus collecting stamps. You get my drift? Sometime’s even your hobby can be the greatest passion you have.

I, for example, love reading! Absolutely. And by chance, started this blog so that one day when I’m gray-haired I can read it, have a laugh and share it with my family and kids. Now, along the way if anyone comes across this page and keeps in touch? Well, I get to help someone and be a friend. And this is what I was missing. Writing in my online diary.

But, when you have something you are passionate about, you will make time for it. That is what I was unable to do. (We’ll talk about that some other time..)

But if you are in that stage, don’t stress. There is a silver lining. Get up and make time. If you are not doing something productive (stalking someone on insta…we’ve all been there) then use that time in doing what brings a smile to your face!

Take that second chance. You can restart anytime. You get one life. ONE. And if you continue to live it for others, or give excuses, or just give up; then it is a waste.

Don’t continue seeking happiness when all you need to do is search within. Find yourself. There is no greater joy.

What’s that one thing that brings a smile to your face? I want to know!..
