Life is all about taking a break

Hello to all my lovely readers! And to anyone who is new; welcome to my little space on the internet. This space was created for a good old fashioned read without the obvious pages of a book; a 21st century space for people to let their imagination take over after dealing with the reality of life during the rest of the day.

This does not mean I claim to have motivated people to suddenly start reading. No. I just wanted to show what they were missing. A balance if you will. Reading has brought me so much joy and solace for as far as I can remember, that I wanted to be able to share that with everyone who was willing.

This blog was probably one of the best things I have arguably done this year. I am not trying to be vain; just proud and happy that I can write what I want, when I want and look back and remember the exact emotion and memory that prompted a particular blog post. But ….. (there is always a catch!!..)

I write to share. We share on social media and other platforms so that other people also see it; read it and in turn, share it to their connections. Everything we do is related to sharing. We keep giving and giving part of ourselves and our lives; and frankly ….. I need to give some time for me ! Selfish, I know. But when all you do is worry about what other people think; you stop living life for yourself. It’s all about the little things. A hiatus to stop worrying about the blog, the student / work life, the number of followers on every site …the list goes on! Real connections- my family, my friends are the ones I needed to work on. To show them how much I value them. How much I value myself; no reason to overwork and stop having fun!

Sometimes, you need to step away from something for a more rational perspective. So if you are feeling overwhelmed; worry not. Switch off those pesky applications and start communicating. Actually go and have conversations with people which do no involve technology. Go to your happy place with ‘your people’.

Eventually you will come back. How can you not in this tech savvy world?.. But till then you can imagine being a hermit without having to physically transport yourself to a mountain top or a cave in a forest. (..though that works as well!)

What is beauty?

We all like to think that we have evolved from the idea of beauty just being an outward physical appearance. (We all know that’s not true!)

Sure, the inner beauty, the personality of a person matters. We like to believe that people judge a person based on that. But, there are people and there are certain situations where where the outward look also matters.

Personally, I’m the type of person who owns a lip balm and who loves to wear comfortable large baggy clothes. While some people may agree with me, it may not be appropriate for certain situations and places. So then why is there so much importance being given on the way we look ? Is it all just superficial ?

No. Absolutely not. While our appearance may catch attention, it is our charm and our personality that will appease people and keep them interested. And that is the whole idea of beauty. (according to me at least…)

Then why am I writing this blog post ? Because I just realized this right now. Sure, some women like and feel confident with a face full of makeup or wearing designer clothes. And I’m not here to judge. We work best when we feel good. And, I am learning all this about myself.

This year, it’s all about reflection, and attention to myself. Sometimes it’s good to be selfish! I want to look good and feel good! And it will happen, slowly but surely. That doesn’t mean I am changing myself; simply seeing and understanding the viewpoint that a lot of the people have.

And I wanted to let everyone know, to anyone who thinks a makeover, or a bunch load of cosmetic products is a tool for insecure women; it is not. The beauty of a person is already there. That is what makes them unique and set’s everyone apart.

But by enhancing this beauty; if it helps drawing people in (say, for a job interview or a date) or if it makes someone confident, then I support it 100%!

And to be honest, I plan on starting to groom myself as well. Not for being superficial; but to look and feel my absolute best, inside and out !

What are your thoughts about Beauty? Do you judge a book based on it’s cover?

A Moment to Reflect

As we are almost through to the end of the new year, 2017 I wanted a chance to reflect on all that has happened in my life ever since. It is an important year for me, and I wanted a moment to sit back and see all that I had achieved.

What did I end up realizing? I’ve made some great friends, met some cool people and learnt a lot. But what did I achieve? What significant contribution have I made?

By contribution I mean change. What kind of difference did I make in the world? Even if I forget the whole world, what difference have I made in the lives of people I met?

And while I was down on the dumps regarding it, I realized one thing. I wouldn’t know. Of course how can I? You have to ask the people I met.

We all have certain things we aim to achieve. It’s important to set goals. It keeps us focused. But what happens when we (like me for instance) realize, that it hasn’t happened yet? Or we think we haven’t done anything important?

We fear what we don’t know. So when we don’t know our accomplishment or our success; doesn’t mean it was all for nothing. It’s human nature to compare, but what we must realize is, sometimes people may be comparing it to us. The need to succeed is so ingrained that we don’t realize it can sometimes lead to our downfall as well.

So, whenever you have the sudden anxiety of feeling like you are not making a difference; or if you feel like a failure, always remember this; someone somewhere is thankful to have you in their life. Whether it is your boss, assistant, cook, cleaner, family or a friend, you may be succeeding in the most important thing you are capable of doing.

Bringing joy in someone else’s life.

So if you are feeling down, or feel like a complete loser at times, always remember this. Your success may not always be measured by money or what position you hold in your office. Sometimes it may just be seen by the people you saved. And according to me, that is quite enough.

If you think my posts resonate with you please leave a comment and let me know. I do appreciate all the feedback and the support.

New Chapter – (Story)

IMG_0018_18

She stared at the blank page in front of her as she fiddled around with the ball point pen in her hand.

Writing came to her as easy as breathing. It always had. Despite what everyone else said, she made no effort. She just had to sit down and the words flowed automatically from within her.

But it had to be on paper. There was something refreshing about writing down on a crisp new page; and the feeling of scratching down whatever that didn’t work showed how much effort you put in writing down your thoughts when you saw it after a long time.

But somehow the past few weeks, something within her had held her back. There were no significant changes in her life; just the usual monotony of a normal routine. She was also close to the deadline of presenting her story to the board of directors at the company she worked for.

But she was drawing a blank. Despite the motivation she got from her friends, she had gotten a feeling she was broken. Till now.

Her little niece was out playing in the backyard, welcoming the new season; and she had taken a branch of flowers and kept in on her table. Something about the smell of those freshly plucked flowers, and the screaming of kids outside on the street and in her backyard let the wheels of her brain loose.

As she filled out page after page, she started smiling a bit more.

“It looks like the words were there all along”, her brother said peering down and peeking at the written matter. “Seems like it”, she laughed out swatting her elder brother and closing the door shut behind him.

She called out her manager, proof read everything and scanned the pages to send it to her all the while screaming and dancing about her room; feeling like she just had won the noble peace prize.

“Someone seems to have gotten their mojo back” a quite voice called from the back. Her sister, silently came in and sat down at the end of her bed; showing off her growing baby bump.

She laughed again feeling lighter than ever, remembering a line she had written in her new novel. Something about writing, always made her feel free.

“Sometimes we feel like we lost something, when in fact we just needed sometime to find ourselves. I never was broken. I didn’t lose my talent; I simply needed time to take a step back and take it all in”

And just like that the two sisters stepped out, to welcome the new season along with their entire family.

Dear Friends – Happy Friendship Day

To all my Friends; I wish you a Happy Friendship Day. No. It’s not today but just a little earlier to show some special love.

Now, to be honest, I may not know a lot about this day apart from the fact that kids try and get as many ‘friendship bands’ as possible to show off the number of friends they have. (I confess to have tried that once…)

But now, after a little experience in the world, I have to admit that the definition has changed. Imagine loops of circles of around you, like the solar system. Now, the closer the ring, the more in tune, I am with these people. Some cross the boundary of friends to become more like family. Now the farther away the rings are, the type of friendship changes from being friendly to being just good acquaintances.

Now you guys! As cliche, as corny or as cheesy it sounds are my friends as well. We may not personally know each other, but you read my rambled thoughts and posts and that means so much.

So, to you guys and everyone I know. Thank you, for being in my circle and for allowing me to join yours as well. Thank you for being my friend; for bringing me joy.

I do appreciate all of you!
