A Moment to Reflect

As we are almost through to the end of the new year, 2017 I wanted a chance to reflect on all that has happened in my life ever since. It is an important year for me, and I wanted a moment to sit back and see all that I had achieved.

What did I end up realizing? I’ve made some great friends, met some cool people and learnt a lot. But what did I achieve? What significant contribution have I made?

By contribution I mean change. What kind of difference did I make in the world? Even if I forget the whole world, what difference have I made in the lives of people I met?

And while I was down on the dumps regarding it, I realized one thing. I wouldn’t know. Of course how can I? You have to ask the people I met.

We all have certain things we aim to achieve. It’s important to set goals. It keeps us focused. But what happens when we (like me for instance) realize, that it hasn’t happened yet? Or we think we haven’t done anything important?

We fear what we don’t know. So when we don’t know our accomplishment or our success; doesn’t mean it was all for nothing. It’s human nature to compare, but what we must realize is, sometimes people may be comparing it to us. The need to succeed is so ingrained that we don’t realize it can sometimes lead to our downfall as well.

So, whenever you have the sudden anxiety of feeling like you are not making a difference; or if you feel like a failure, always remember this; someone somewhere is thankful to have you in their life. Whether it is your boss, assistant, cook, cleaner, family or a friend, you may be succeeding in the most important thing you are capable of doing.

Bringing joy in someone else’s life.

So if you are feeling down, or feel like a complete loser at times, always remember this. Your success may not always be measured by money or what position you hold in your office. Sometimes it may just be seen by the people you saved. And according to me, that is quite enough.

If you think my posts resonate with you please leave a comment and let me know. I do appreciate all the feedback and the support.

New Chapter – (Story)

She stared at the blank page in front of her as she fiddled around with the ball point pen in her hand.

Writing came to her as easy as breathing. It always had. Despite what everyone else said, she made no effort. She just had to sit down and the words flowed automatically from within her.

But it had to be on paper. There was something refreshing about writing down on a crisp new page; and the feeling of scratching down whatever that didn’t work showed how much effort you put in writing down your thoughts when you saw it after a long time.

But somehow the past few weeks, something within her had held her back. There were no significant changes in her life; just the usual monotony of a normal routine. She was also close to the deadline of presenting her story to the board of directors at the company she worked for.

But she was drawing a blank. Despite the motivation she got from her friends, she had gotten a feeling she was broken. Till now.

Her little niece was out playing in the backyard, welcoming the new season; and she had taken a branch of flowers and kept in on her table. Something about the smell of those freshly plucked flowers, and the screaming of kids outside on the street and in her backyard let the wheels of her brain loose.

As she filled out page after page, she started smiling a bit more.

“It looks like the words were there all along”, her brother said peering down and peeking at the written matter. “Seems like it”, she laughed out swatting her elder brother and closing the door shut behind him.

She called out her manager, proof read everything and scanned the pages to send it to her all the while screaming and dancing about her room; feeling like she just had won the noble peace prize.

“Someone seems to have gotten their mojo back” a quite voice called from the back. Her sister, silently came in and sat down at the end of her bed; showing off her growing baby bump.

She laughed again feeling lighter than ever, remembering a line she had written in her new novel. Something about writing, always made her feel free.

“Sometimes we feel like we lost something, when in fact we just needed sometime to find ourselves. I never was broken. I didn’t lose my talent; I simply needed time to take a step back and take it all in”

And just like that the two sisters stepped out, to welcome the new season along with their entire family.

Dear Friends – Happy Friendship Day

To all my Friends; I wish you a Happy Friendship Day. No. It’s not today but just a little earlier to show some special love.

Now, to be honest, I may not know a lot about this day apart from the fact that kids try and get as many ‘friendship bands’ as possible to show off the number of friends they have. (I confess to have tried that once…)

But now, after a little experience in the world, I have to admit that the definition has changed. Imagine loops of circles of around you, like the solar system. Now, the closer the ring, the more in tune, I am with these people. Some cross the boundary of friends to become more like family. Now the farther away the rings are, the type of friendship changes from being friendly to being just good acquaintances.

Now you guys! As cliche, as corny or as cheesy it sounds are my friends as well. We may not personally know each other, but you read my rambled thoughts and posts and that means so much.

So, to you guys and everyone I know. Thank you, for being in my circle and for allowing me to join yours as well. Thank you for being my friend; for bringing me joy.

I do appreciate all of you!

A New Start – (Story)

WHACK ! Whack, whack WHACK !

Before she could even turn her head around she was met with another shower of snowballs.

“C’mon C! It’s like you’re not even trying!” grumbled her brother from mound of snow; which he called his fortress.

Dusting her coat she thought bitterly, “I’m not”. But she chose not to answer, and instead only scowled at the snow knowing well that her two older brothers were out there somewhere planning their next move. But she couldn’t be bothered. She was instead taking in the beautiful view of her neighborhood, clad in fresh snow.

When you lose the thing you love most, is when you start to realize the importance of it.

And this is exactly what had happened to her. The day of her 16th birthday; a beautiful time for any girl, was when her parents had thought it was the right thing to do by informing her that she was adopted. It was right of them of course. Her parents had mentioned the name of the woman who had given birth to her, but refused to have a meeting with her.

A crack addict. That’s the exact word they had used. But she had refused to believe it. She refused to believe them. How could she? She was living a lie. The family she had called her own, weren’t actually her’s. So, she did the logical thing she could; she ran away. She wasn’t thinking. It was summer vacation at her school and this way she hoped she could meet her biological mother. She had so many questions that she was quite sure the unknown woman would answer.

But, she didn’t know how wrong she was in thinking that. After living off eating barely there leftover food, by the back doors of restaurants, she ended her search for answers at a cemetery. Turns out, after her birth and adoption, the woman had overdosed on meth. She was found dead by a volunteer medical student, three days later.

“C, you alright?” came a voice from behind her.

Looking back at the two raven haired boys, the tiny blonde gave a small watery smile.

Brokenhearted, and unsure whether she could ever return back home she was walking on the road when she was hit by a car. When she had opened her eyes, her family was right by her side. After a round of hugs and kisses, she was told off. And grounded. Not that she minded that. She had missed the feeling of acceptance after being alone for more than two months.

When you’re injured and in a hospital, there’s not much you can do except to think. Despite her acting like a completely irresponsible and reckless teen, they had been there for her when she had needed them the most. That was a family. Her family. She had been so self absorbed that she didn’t think; had she not been adopted her fate would have been similar to the name of the person she had read on the tombstone.

They had given her a life worth living. And just as she was about to throw away that, they had come and given her a new start. Again.

This was what a family was. Despite not being related by blood, their bond was deep. And nothing could change that. She was a part of the family. They had just chosen to be honest with her about it.  And for that she could not convey the love and gratitude she had, for her parents. And her brothers.

“Just reflecting on the past year” she said walking up to the boys and giving them both hugs that showed the love she had for them; before smacking a snowball directly on their head. She laughed off as they were completely taken aback.

And just like that, everything was alright again.

Why ‘Relaxed Reading’? – About this Blog

I had mentioned in the last post that I was done fighting, listening and believing what everyone told me. So I grabbed my pen (Laptop) and my paper (Microsoft Word) and started my journey to happiness. A tad bit melodramatic BUT I needed to get my point across.

Do you remember the little corner in the library where you could snuggle up and read, and no one would bother you?…time, hungry, worry all would be forgotten? Well this was the reason for starting off this blog.

Hence, the name Relaxed Reading!

02. Cover Photo

I never actually did explain the name and purpose behind this blog because I thought the title suggested it. I want this place to be a safe haven. A Bridge to Terabithia. The Hogwarts Express. I want anyone who reads these posts to forget their reality and what they are facing, but still take away something they learnt; maybe through my experiences or share some of their own. (I firmly believe we all can learn something from everyone)

For example, recently I had a terrible day at work! Start to end. But instead of getting angry and beginning to cry in front of my colleagues (so I may get moist eyes when I’m angry…don’t judge!) my mind began thinking of a way I could write this; take something positive and maybe help someone else out as well! After all, we ALL have that one irritating boss at work don’t we?

*eureka moment for a new blog post*

Similarly, as they say”a picture is worth a thousand words”, I just plan on writing short stories on some captured moments in my other section. It’s funny to see how a story can be spun in so many different ways and still be engrossing isn’t it? It shows the different perspective’s and ways that people can let their imagination take them.

So! For this blog –

  1. I have decided to go on a more unusual route this time when I write. I will try and link up all the Lifestyle posts of the month so it seems more coherent in a way – preferably every Thursday. (I will try my absolute hardest…)
  2. My Story time posts will be published every Monday. (if I can manage) I do have ideas about some other stuff to write in the middle but let’s leave that as a surprise shall we?
  3. Also the little Friendly Reminders are just quotes I heard or read that I feel can inspire everyone; especially if you are feeling a little downhearted in the middle of the month.

I know this may seem either too little or too ambitious to some. But I thought it best to put it out there so I can have some accountability for not writing. It may help keep me on track and I am willing to try it. Plus, all the new lovely people having a look at this page will know exactly when to expect what. (a little predictive schedule but let’s see how it goes….)

If you have any thoughts and ideas about this Blog please do leave a comment. I would love to know what your thinking. (as time goes I might even expand this little space….but let’s wait and see!)
