A Moment to Reflect

As we are almost through to the end of the new year, 2017 I wanted a chance to reflect on all that has happened in my life ever since. It is an important year for me, and I wanted a moment to sit back and see all that I had achieved.

What did I end up realizing? I’ve made some great friends, met some cool people and learnt a lot. But what did I achieve? What significant contribution have I made?

By contribution I mean change. What kind of difference did I make in the world? Even if I forget the whole world, what difference have I made in the lives of people I met?

And while I was down on the dumps regarding it, I realized one thing. I wouldn’t know. Of course how can I? You have to ask the people I met.

We all have certain things we aim to achieve. It’s important to set goals. It keeps us focused. But what happens when we (like me for instance) realize, that it hasn’t happened yet? Or we think we haven’t done anything important?

We fear what we don’t know. So when we don’t know our accomplishment or our success; doesn’t mean it was all for nothing. It’s human nature to compare, but what we must realize is, sometimes people may be comparing it to us. The need to succeed is so ingrained that we don’t realize it can sometimes lead to our downfall as well.

So, whenever you have the sudden anxiety of feeling like you are not making a difference; or if you feel like a failure, always remember this; someone somewhere is thankful to have you in their life. Whether it is your boss, assistant, cook, cleaner, family or a friend, you may be succeeding in the most important thing you are capable of doing.

Bringing joy in someone else’s life.

So if you are feeling down, or feel like a complete loser at times, always remember this. Your success may not always be measured by money or what position you hold in your office. Sometimes it may just be seen by the people you saved. And according to me, that is quite enough.
